Sky-oh-My Central 6.14.06
-Johnny Sticks
Sky Nellor, the renaissance girl of the fashion world, joins the ranks of celeb DJ’s like Skribbles, Kid Capri, and AM, that have previously worked the decks at Central. Making her first appearance at the Astoria nightspot last Wednesday night, Nellor played a thrilling set that kept the crowd wound up.
Hailing from the land down under, this sheila started out as a model, gracing magazine covers all over the world and strutting down runways of the biggest fashion houses. It was a dare from a friend that got her to jump behind the turntables at a party, and she hasn’t stopped since. Her world travels and broad musical taste had fueled her most unique and electrifying sets, landing her gigs at places like 40/40 and Bungalow 8. Nellor has also spun at fashion shows, including the Armani/ Vanity Fair walk of fame, where she performed with Outkast and helped Armani win the first Hollywood star ever given to a designer.
No doubt her resume as a DJ and a model is impressive, and despite having spun at some of the worlds largest clubs, Nellor finds a cozier venue like Central just as pleasurable. “It’s great” she says, “I don’t give a fuck where I’m at, as long as the crowd is great, and the people are feeling the music I’m happy…I felt as if I was playing at any other hot spot in the world.” Nellor will be making only a few more appearances at Central courtesy of DirtyStayout.
